Christmas Crafts

Dancing Mothball Centerpiece

Half fill the bowl to be used with water. Measure.

To each liter of water add:

1 Tbsp. Citric acid
1 Tbsp. Baking soda

Color the water if desired using food coloring.

Add 6-8 mothballs (depending on the size of container you may want to add more or less)

When effervescence ceases, add more citric acid and baking soda.

NB: Use only fresh ingredients.

Do not use scented mothballs such as cedar, pine, or lavender etc. The additives will destroy the effect.

Onto a ceramic or plastic saucer arrange chunks of coal to resemble a small rock garden. (broken chunks of brick or concrete can be substituted)

Mix in a glass jar:

6 Tbsp. Salt
6 Tbsp. Bluing (Mrs. Stewarts Liquid)
6 Tbsp. Water
6 Tbsp. Ammonia

Mix well. (salt will not completely dissolve)

Spoon onto rock garden wherever you want your garden to grow, including the saucer. For special effect, add a touch of green or red food coloring to duplicate growth of flowers etc.
