1 quart hot water
2 lbs. bluestone - granular
2 gallons water
2 lbs. iron sulphate
4 lbs. coarse salt
1 cup washing soda

In a 4 gallon crock or plastic bucket, dissolve bluestone in 1 quart hot water. Add next three ingredients and stir. Then add washing soda - a small quantity at a time as it causes foaming, stirring until all is dissolved. Soak pine/spruce cones for one week. Remove and air dry. NB: You may find bluestone at pharmacies, Peavy Marts, or U of A Co-ops. Iron sulphate is a Green Valley product available at garden centers.
